Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death worldwide. In Sri Lanka, smoking and exposure to second-hand smoke are the primary risk factors.

Is It Treatable?

When caught early (Stage I), survival rates can be above 60%. Quitting smoking at any age reduces your risk significantly.

⚠️ Warning Signs

  • Persistent cough or change in chronic cough
  • Coughing up blood
  • Chest pain that worsens with breathing
  • Unexplained weight loss and fatigue
  • Shortness of breath

🔴 Risk Factors

  • Smoking (primary cause)
  • Second-hand smoke exposure
  • Occupational exposure to asbestos, radon
  • Family history
  • Air pollution

🔍 Screening & Detection

Low-dose CT scan recommended for high-risk individuals (heavy smokers over age 50).

Surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy.
