Cervical Cancer
Cervical cancer is largely preventable through HPV vaccination and regular screening. In Sri Lanka, the NCCP runs screening programmes through colposcopy centres nationwide.
Is It Treatable?
HIGHLY PREVENTABLE and treatable. HPV vaccination can prevent up to 90% of cervical cancers. Early-stage cervical cancer has a 5-year survival rate above 90%.
Warning Signs
- ●Abnormal vaginal bleeding
- ●Pelvic pain
- ●Pain during intercourse
- ●Unusual vaginal discharge
- ●Bleeding after menopause
Risk Factors
- ●HPV infection (primary cause)
- ●Smoking
- ●Weakened immune system
- ●Long-term use of oral contraceptives
- ●Multiple pregnancies
- ●Early sexual activity
Screening & Detection
Pap smear every 3 years for women 25-65, HPV vaccination for girls age 9-14.
Treatment Options
Surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or combination treatment depending on stage.
